Beholders are creatures of unknown origin, although most people believe that they were created or summoned by ancient wizards. The beholder's appearance is that of a giant sphere of flesh, covered by a multitude of eyes. Each of these eyes possesses a magical power of some sort, a power that is unleashed through the beholder's central eye, which it can focus upon both living and lifeless objects. The only other features of the beholder are a great, fang-filled mouth, located slightly below the central eye, and two small limb-like extensions that function as its arms. Because of its great size, and because of its shape, the beholder is unable to use normal armor.
